Three Delhi boys among AIEEE toppers - Delhi - City - The Times of India

NEW DELHI: After a relatively disappointing show in IIT-JEE, candidates from Delhi region had something to cheer about as the results of 9th All India Engineering Architecture Entrance Exam (AIEEE) were declared on Sunday. Three Delhi candidates were among the list of top 10 in the competition in which all-India topper was Vipul Singh of Bhilai.

In Delhi, Satyender Yadav from S D Saraswati Bal Mandir, Punajbi Bagh was in sixth position while Shivam Handa of Manavsthali, Rajindra Nagar was placed at ninth position. A few days back, Handa was placed 37th and Yadav 50th in the list of those of who cleared IIT-JEE.

‘‘I would join IIT-Delhi and pursue computer science,’’ said a jubilant Yadav. Hailing from Haryana, Yadav after his class X joined Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya in Tilak Nagar where he was asked to leave due to shortage in attendance. He later went on to score 90.4% in his class XII boards.

Handa too plans to pursue computer science from IIT-Delhi. Speaking about his preparation for AIEEE, he said: ‘‘I started my preparation immediately after my class X boards. My coaching institute helped me immensely on the right kind of preparation, while my school was also cooperative. I needed 75% attendance in school so I utilized 25% leaves and concentrated on coaching.’’ Vipul Singh was 5th in the list of IIT-Jee toppers. ‘‘The guidance of teachers helped me greatly,’’ said Singh.

In all 11,18,148 students registered for exams and 10,58,152 appeared in it. AIEEE is the largest single-day competitive exam conducted by Central Board of Secondary Exams. The online registration for counselling to be conducted by the Central Counselling Board will be staring from June 8.

Based on the ranks achieved in this exam, admission is done in various National Institutes of Technology, Indian Institutes of Information technology, Delhi Technological University etc.
