Ahmedabad boy tops state in IIT-JEE 2010
Seventeen-year-old Abhi Shah from Ahmedabad topped the state in IIT-JEE 2010, results of which were declared on Wednesday. A student of Udgam School, Abhi scored 92 per cent in the SSC and 87 per cent in the HSC. Abhi was busy taking training for Chemistry Olympiad when the results were announced. His mother Naina Shah said: “I am very happy for him. He is not very studious but he is very good at whatever he does. He also stood first in several other national competitions in mathematics, physics and chemistry.” She further said he is “very good” in extra curricular activities as well, and plays the guitar.
Students from Vadodara have also found place at the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) despite errors in the question papers during the entrance test this year. Delhi Public School student Rishi Dua got an All India Rank of 386 while Suneel Meena bagged the 461st spot. Areejeet Nag from Kendriya Vidyalaya ONGC, whose AIR rank was 1,029, said: “I was confident of getting a rank in the 700s if the errors were not there. I aim to pursue mechanical engineering.”

S R Mishra, director of Vadodara-based coaching institute, IIT Ashram, said: “The question paper had many errors. Certain sections carried more than one correct answer and the instructions said that candidates would get partial marking for choosing partially correct answers. Also, no negative marking would be done. The instructions were ambiguous and many students, taking the advantage marked all the four given options.” Over 15 students from the coaching institute cleared the entrance, he added.
