Andhra CM congratulates 27 top rankers of IIT test

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah congratulated the top rankers in the recently held IIT entrance test.
According to a press release here, the Chief Minister said the corporate education for weaker sections scheme, initiated by the State Government, had proven to be a substantially successful as it was resulting in many students getting admission in the premier engineering institutes in India like Indian Institute of Technology (IIT).
The success of the scheme is also reflected as the students had emerged with high level ranks at IIT test.
The scheme had adopted an inclusive approach, by providing almost 8,000 students of intermediate level from socio-economically marginalised categories like SC and STs, with an opportunity to enroll and get trained in reputed corporate colleges like Sri Chaitanya and Narayana. Around 2,000 of these students appeared for IIT-JEE 2010 examination.
Under the scheme, the students were prepared for intermediate exams as well as specialised training were provided for appearing at competitive exams like IITT-JEE, EAMCET.
The students were selected on the basis of merit from RIAD mandals and they were provided hostel facilities and yearly stipend to bear the costs of the books and reading materials. The batch of students who have emerged with flying colours are students from the first batch.
In context of the students coming from marginalised sections, an opportunity of this sort followed by the achievements made marks a beginning in itself, for the students and a welfare agenda of the government. The success of the corporate education scheme marks, government's focus on inclusive development interventions in social sectors like education, the release added.
