‘Decided early on that I wanted to join IIT; concentrated on science, mathematics'

NEW DELHI: Eighteen-year-old Vipul Singh from Bhilai in Chhattisgarh, who is this year's IIT-JEE topper from the Kharagpur region, has also topped the ninth All-India Engineering/Architecture Entrance Examination, the results for which were declared on Sunday.

Vipul who is in the capital to receive his award for topping the International Mathematics Olympiad and also for securing an overall rank-2 in the National Science Olympiad, secured an impressive all India 5th rank in the IIT-JEE. He scored 96.2 per cent in the Class XII examinations.

“I was extremely focused from the beginning. Very early on I decided that I wanted to join IIT. I concentrated a great deal on mathematics and science and participated in and won several quizzes as well,” said Vipul.

“I joined FIITJEE, a coaching institute, when I was in Class XI. I also received a great deal of support from my parents,” he added. “I wish to enrol in IIT-Mumbai in the Computer Science branch.”

Others in the AIEEE top 10 list are from Hyderabad, Pune, Vishakhapatnam, Delhi and Bihar.

A total of 10,58,152 candidates appeared for the examination which is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education for admissions to the various National Institutes of Technology, Indian Institutes of Information Technology, Delhi Technological University and deemed universities in Delhi, Haryana and Uttaranchal.

The entrance test was held at 1,623 centres in 86 cities in India and abroad. Online registration for counselling to be done by the Central Counselling Board will begin from June 8.
