My daughter is your reward Add a comment »

Started by Deva Raju, Sr. Technical recruiter at Makro Technologies, Inc

Once there was a millionaire, who collected live alligators. He kept them in the pool in back of his mansion. The millionaire also had a beautiful daughter who was single. One day he decides to throw a huge party, and during the party he announces, "My dear guests . . . I have a proposition to every man here. I will give one million dollars or my daughter to the man who can swim across this pool full of alligators and emerge alive!"

As soon as he finished his last word, there was the sound of a large splash!! There was one guy in the pool swimming with all he could and screaming out of fear. The crowd cheered him on as he kept stroking as though he was running for his life. Finally, he made it to the other side with only a torn shirt and some minor injuries. The millionaire was impressed.

He said, "My boy that was incredible! Fantastic! I didn't think it could be done! Well I must keep my end of the bargain. Do you want my daughter or the one million dollars?"

The guy says, "Listen, I don't want your money, nor do I want your daughter! I want the person who pushed me in that water!"

Hopes Beyond IIT
Students of 10+2 mathematics are crazy about IIT. May be you are one of them too who desperately want to be a part of IIT. But, let me tell you. There is life other than IIT which can be as good as a life with IIT.

Here, I'm giving list of some institutes which can be said as alternative for IIT. This list covers those institutes where students of PCM 12th pass can apply. Some of these are very much around or better than IIT. Have a look:

Special Class Railway Apprentice, UPSC
1. SCRA:

Special Class Railway Apprentice (SCRA) aka Railway Engineering is an examination conducted by UPSC for selecting candidates suitable for engineering department of Railway. It is a very royal job with large prospects. It is also the toughest exam at 10+2 level. There are just around 10 vacancies each year. Still lot of people sits for its exam. Also, your salary will start just after passing this exam. It is the dream course.

Indian Statistical Institute

2. ISI:

Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) is a very old institute of mathematics, statistics, economics and computer science. It is best institute in India for Statistics and Mathematics and second best for Economics (after DSE). The pass-outs from this institute are very much in demand all over world. Placements are better than even IIMs. Above all there are no fees. Instead handsome stipends each month are given to the students. This in my sense is best alternative for IIT. Obviously, many students come to this institute after getting top ranks in IIT JEE. Some leave IIT after getting top ten ranks for ISI.

Chartered Accountant

3. CA:

For mathematics branch students, CA is not the prime choice. Those who opt for CA after 10+2 with mathematics basically, if they don't get selected somewhere for engineering. But, CA should not be just seen as a degree for commerce students. Mathematics students have high chances to perform better in this course. CA aka Chartered accountant is the high earning job. You may work in a company or set-up your own company for auditing accounts. It is just like law. Every company needs service from a CA. As economy is booming and CA course is tough. This sector will be in more demand than else.

Actuarial Society Of India

4. Actuarial:

Actuarial is something very much of same nature as CA. But, have more importance than CA. In India this course is conducted by India Actuarial Society. It is a new field in India. But, demands are very high all over world, not just in India. This course is not for everyone. Only sharp minded people are taken for this course. Basic requirement is mathematics as a subject in 12th with 75% for 10+2 students. 75% marks in mathematics just say the requirement needed for being an actuarial. The most important point, you may study for other course with this. Like engineering or graduation. In fact, if some of your course match with the course of Actuarial. You don't have to write the exam twice. Your regular course marks are accepted by Actuarial society.

National Institute of Design

5. NID:

National Institute of Design (NID) is not a very common name among general students. But, it is a very popular name among those who know even a little about design, graphics or creativity courses in India. This is the best institute to learn about designing. One may just think the need of the students from this institute in market.

6. NDA:

National Defense Academy (NDA) is a very popular exam at 10+2 level. But, popularity of engineering has lowered the no. of quality students for this exam. Yeah, through this exam you may not earn handsome money after NDA. Also, course is physically a bit tough. But, yeah, the proud to be a soldier of India can never be compared with money. Students now a day seek fun and entertainment during course. That fun is not here. But, still here you will get adventure, high esteem and position in society. Pay is not good. But, perks are good. Overall, those who don't want to traditional, boring corporate jobs can join Indian Army through this course.

National Institute of Fashion Technology

7. NIFT:

National institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is a popular brand name. The course here attracts those who want to go in glamor life. No doubt this course needs creativity. Without creativity, you may not perform well. But, yeah this is a high paying and booming sector in India.

National Law School of India University

8. NLSIU:

National Law School of India University (NLSIU) is the best institute in India for Law. As economically, India is developing rapidly. Lots of MNCs are coming each year in India. All of them need law personnel. But, students in India are crazy about engineering and management. Other courses don't get the best quality. So is the case with NLSIU. Students getting here are good but not the best. So, exam is easy to crack with little effort. But, the money after this course is very good.

9. IIIT:

Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) is a project of Indian government to satisfy the demand of IT professionals in India with quality candidates. Courses here are mainly related to IT or computer science. Seats are few in number. But, competition is not as much as for IIT. Some of IIT conduct separate exam. Some take students from AIEEE. This is best course for computer related if you don't get selected in IITs or few NITs.

10. NIT:

National Institute of Technology (NIT) is institutes which were earlier known as Regional Engineering College. These colleges are good, reputed, and old and get good placements too. Earlier, students get admission in these colleges via state engineering examination. Students were not evenly balanced in sort of quality than sorting on the basis of state. Also, as students can't aim at these institutes directly. Hence, these colleges could not make such a reputation as an IIT. These are premier institutes but not the popular ones. These institutes have infrastructure and all sort of facility to produce best engineers. But, they don’t get the best students.

chennai mathematical institute

11. CMI:

Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI) is one of the best institutes in India for Mathematics and Physics. This institute has gained much reputation in very less time. No doubt for research preference this could be on top of your list.

National School of Hotel Management12. NSHM:

(NSHM) is the best institute in India for Hotel and Hospitability management. This institute gives you high prospect for success with growing demands of Hospitability in India.

13. Merchant Navy:

Merchant navy is a high paying job. It is course for become a crew member of a ship. The best institute in this field is TS Chanakya which takes students through IIT JEE. But, it has a separate selection process. Other institutes of Merchant Navy also have the same prospect. No doubt if you want to earn real money, Merchant navy should be the best choice.

14. IISER/NISER:

Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) and National Institute of Science Education Research (NISER) is a project of government to satisfy the scientist need of India. This is a full government funded institutes. You will get handsome stipends to study here. Future prospect is also good. Students from here can easily get admissions anywhere in the world for higher education. Also, prospect in India is good. Scientist are in demand everywhere. Government is thinking to open research gates for private owners in India. So, students from these institutes will be in High demand in near future. Students may get admission to these institutes through IIT JEE EML.

15. Aeronautics:

Aeronautics is a high paying field. In India, this sector is on boom and is expected to need three fold more professionals in coming 10 years. Best institute to get in this field is some IIT where this course is taught. Like IIT Kanpur. But, there are other institutes too who can give same prospects as aeronautics from IITs. These are IIA Group of Institutions. Know more about it here.

On the whole, if you look closely at the list above. These are the best institutes of their respective fields. Hence, we could conclude easily each field which have high prospect can come in the list above.

Also, Keep this in mind nearly every field is open for mathematics students (except medical). So, not just IIT should be your prime stop. You may go to any of these and become successful. Some will give you high reputation and some will give you high money. Some even both. But, try to think beyond IITs. There are hopes beyond IIT.

It is good to know a little bit about these. But, don't go very deep. Lets concentrate on IIT JEE. Not post-IIT JEE.

For IIT JEE, mainly, the syllabus of 11th and 12th standard comprises the syllabus of IIT JEE. Just like it is prestigious, it is hard too. It needs a lot of hard work to crack it. No brainer that your intelligence also plays a vital role in your selection. But, if you compare students withrank around 2000 with those who got 5000. You will find slight or no difference in their intelligence. Means, not merely intelligence is the requirement to pass IIT JEE. Hard work is also a factor. In fact, it is the most important factor. Hard work determines what AIR you will get in the IIT JEE.

Presently in this column I will discuss preparation strategy for class 11th students who have just entered in 11th standard.

First of all, the very step they should take is to gather maximum possible information about IIT JEE. I'm not just telling get some knowledge what is IIT, IIT JEE, 'what is its pattern?', etc. I'm saying get full detail about IIT JEE. What it ask in the exams? Which type of question, it may ask? And which it can't. Syllabus, strategies, aspects, previous years trend and most important what you should study for IIT JEE and what not. These are very important. As I've seen many students regretting later about their misguided preparation. I will not discuss now much about what is IIT JEE. One should try to discuss about it as much as possible with seniors and teachers Also, with your IIT JEE aspirant friends. As may be your friend have gained some important information which you should too know.

Especially, I would like to suggest you to discuss about IIT JEE with those senior who missed their chance in IIT JEE exam by a little margin. Since, they are the one who reviewed most about the key points they lacked in the preparation of IIT JEE. Those who clear IIT JEE easily never have intelligence deficiency. Also, no one review why they get selected. Even if some one did, not by analyzing each and every step they had taken in the preparation of IIT JEE. Even though if these geniuses had done something wrong in their preparation. They might not have realized it yet. Cause it is not necessary for them. Have you ever heard on News TV. Why India won the match? I doubt it. Since, no one have time to come out of celebration to these hectic work. So, if they are giving some advice they had used in their IIT JEE preparation. It might not be fully best. So, always take advice from losers who had close call (not by just any loser). And, not to mention also take advice and comment about IIT JEE preparation from experienced teachers too. They had seen many good students transforming their intelligence to nice AIR. And, also them with the same intelligence level who could not pass the IIT JEE hurdle.

Now, remember the fact that until 10th life is very easy. Also, well guided by experienced teachers in our schools. Comparing to 12th syllabus 10th syllabus is very small. Actually, syllabus of 11th and 12th is a bit hard by the addition of many new sections in the syllabus like calculus, probability, rotational mechanics, modern physics, etc. specially in chemistry a lot of new additions. Not just extensions.

Other than that not to mention syllabus of IIT JEE is much more vast than 11th and 12th syllabus. Also, there are very few people around who could give you correct guidance about IIT JEE. Even I myself is not that much good. So, you have to judge yourself what is good for you. Analyze the advices and tips by others and build a strong preparation strategy for the IIT JEE.

I'm closing here next post will be a three step preparation strategy which could be used by 11th standard students For IIT JEE preparation.

For 11th standard IIT JEE aspirants. Give your comments and share your confusions and trouble here. Use comments section for your feedbacks.

For 12th standard students. Give your comments and feedback. If you have any sort of trouble in study. Write about that too in the comment section. We will discuss about it.

Strategy for repeaters

IIT is a dream for many students. Many had waited 4-5 years to crack IIT JEE. Some even spent few years in other college, and then came to IIT without any tension about year loss. But, since 2006, IIT JEE has taken few steps to filter genuine quality from repeaters.

IIT JEE committee in 2006 changes few eligibility rules for IIT JEE. These changes allow only those who have passed the qualifying exam not more than one year back. Simply we can say. Maximum two attempts are allowed for IIT JEE to any students.

Normally students, who are not both lucky and brilliant simultaneously, fail to mark an impression in first attempt of IIT JEE. I'm pointing at lucky and brilliant both. Even brilliance can't guarantee you to be an IITian in first shot. There are lots of complications. Like you have to cover the syllabus in right time, you have to face board exams just few days back of IIT JEE, you have to quickly switch to IIT JEE syllabus after board exam. Not to say all these needs appropriate timing. Many loose the preparation at last steps not due to brilliance. But, due to so much complications and lack of appropriate guidance. Just before IIT JEE, many lose their chance to get selected. So, it needs luck with brilliance to pass IIT JEE in first shot.

I will discuss here exactly how you should prepare if you had failed in first appearance of IIT JEE. What should be the strategy? How you should study? When is the right time for pace? When you should join test series? When your revision should start? Should you join any coaching or home preparation is best? I will discuss all these points here. Also, if you want any point to be added by me raise your voice. Use comments section.

First of all, let’s decide whether you need coaching or not. Note it down that you should be associated in IIT JEE coaching once in your three year duration of IIT JEE preparation. If you have taken any professional coaching for IIT JEE up till 12th. Now, go for home preparation. If you were not associated with coaching during 12th or 11th especially for IIT JEE, it is a good time for you to do so. Do not forget. Coaching is very important to know most about IIT JEE. Especially those who are average do well after coaching. (See this article to know how coaching help different students in IIT JEE preparation.)

One thing I want to urge all. If you think that there is some chance for you to crack IIT JEE. But, less chance in first shot. Then, go for IIT JEE coaching during 11th and 12th. Don't leave the professional help for post-board duration. Coaching gives you a lot. But, it takes away your energy and also need much mental and physical work. Students sometime get lost in mental and physical strain they undergo during coaching. Also, you will become much more mature about IIT JEE after taking coaching. So, you could study in right way in your final shot. I will discuss more about it later in some other article.

If you are thinking to go for coaching after board exams, then, remember to give good time for self-study. Don't get lost in assignments and hand-outs provided by your coaching. Solve them. But, also give appropriate time for IIT JEE text-books and standard problem book. Remove confusions related with concepts using full help of coaching system. IIT JEE concentrates more at those points which are loop holes for students. You can perform better if you keep in mind above mentioned points. These are enough for you. Remember, coaching will take away most of your time. Still you have to work-hard restlessly.

Now, if you had already taken coaching during 12th or don't want to join any coaching. These are for you.

After IIT JEE exam or exam period gets over. Don't waste much time in enjoyment. Re-start your preparation after a gap of not more than 7 days.

When you start the preparation, first go for little analyze. Try to figure out which chapters need improvement and which are your best portions. Also, which book to follow? In this one year of preparation you should concentrate more on clarifying concept by solving more and more problem. Problem should be solved by books which have IIT JEE sort of problems. I would suggest go for Arihant books in Physics and Mathematics. For chemistry, Arihant books are not so much good. Try Schaum series or others like O P Tondon or O P Agrawal for physical chemistry. For Organic strictly go for Solomons & Fryhle. It is best book for Organic chemistry for IIT JEE. Use this book with its solution book. For Inorganic use Arihant. Memorize every reaction type. Go for problems. The more regularly you solve the problems. The more you will improve in Organic or Inorganic Chemistry. Not to mention, not just above books are only best books in the market. But, yeah these are most tested.

If you have material of some top institute of IIT JEE. Refer them too while reading concept from above mentioned books. Try to solve the variety of problems available. The more you get familiar with problem more you will solve the problem in IIT JEE. Remember IIT JEE don't check your speed. You will have enough time to solve problems to secure good rank in IIT JEE. So, concentrate on practicing more and more problem. Required speed will be acquired just by practice.

3 Steps Preparation for IIT JEE

3 Steps Preparation for IIT JEE » IIT JEE : Best Site For Tips and Articles for IIT JEE - Conquer IIT JEE

Author: abhishekrukhaiyar | 9-10-2009, 17:52 | Views: 785

Here, I'm suggesting three step process for preparing IIT JEE (for 11th student):

Step 1:

First step is concept building step. In this step you should start reading low level books. By low level books, I do not mean low quality poor books. Low level books are those books which reduces the gap between 10th level and JEE level concept. No doubt, these are 11th, 12th level books. These book takes very less time to cover. Ideally,2-3 months is more than enough to cover 11th books. And, 1.5 - 2 months for 12th books. Time for 12th level would be less as most of the new concept which applies brake in understanding are in 11th books. I would suggest go with NCERT books or the books suggested by your school. For those who think the ideally time to cover these books is less. I would like to point out that for IIT JEE level book you have to cover around 3-4 times more pages and 3-4 times harder problems.

You will feel very energetic while solving these problem. Not much depth of theory is needed to solve these books. Theory in the books will be sufficient to solve all the problems.

This step will make you familiar with 11th and 12th std. syllabus. By this step, it will be very easy to read various inter-linked chapters of JEE syllabus. As the problems asked in JEE level books are generally need basic knowledge of many different concept from different chapters. So, overall this Step will take around 4-5 months to complete ,i.e., if you have started the preparation in June. Then, till Oct you should have completed this step.

Step 2:

This step is the most important step in the preparation of JEE. In this step, your IIT selection chance will be strengthen or broke. Until now if step 1 is completed ideally. Then, one must have become familiar with near about whole syllabus. Now, you will find it some what relatively easy to tackle JEE level concept and problems. In this step read the prescribed books by reading the concepts thoroughly and going through each and every problem. Try to build a firm base of concepts on the basis of problem solving. As much harder and distinct problems you will solve on a concept that much you will become familiar to the concept. Remember IIT asks questions to test your concept understanding. Not on how much you know about any formula. For this step I recommend these books:

* Math:
o Arihant books are best and sufficient for all sections. These are up to date and very much systematically written.
o TMH and Das Gupta are also option. But, those books are now sort of outdated.

* Physics:
o H. C. Verma for theory feeds is the best and sufficient. Many people give the suggestion of Resnick Halliday. But, I have found it just a book with nice illustrations. Never found it useful. Even if it might be good. May be due to nice and eye-catching pictures I had never concentrated well on fundas.
o Arihant's problem book by D. C. Pandey and Mir Publisher's Irodov. For Irodov people nowadays say that you don't need such a hard book for current IIT pattern. But, I found it full of IIT sort of problems. Which is very helpful in solving every problems of IIT level and also for fine tuning the concepts.

* Chemistry:
o Arihant's book for Inorganic chemistry. Just mug it up. Nothing more. Have a good collection of problems too.
o Organic Chemistry by Solomons & Fryle. Use its solution book side by side. This book is excellent and complete package for JEE. Language is easy. Problem are just like as asked in JEE. Overall, if solution is done side by side with the theory. Best result will surely come out.
o For Physical or General chemistry I don't know the best choice. I've read this section from 5-6 different sources. I had mainly this S. chand , B. H. Mahan, G.D. Mishra and Brilliants Elite course.
o R.C.Mukerjee is a good book. But, try different JEE level problem book for Physical section.

This step will take more than 1 years. You should have to cover this step 2-3 months before your board exam. Solve as much problems as you can. This is the step where you will find out your chances in JEE.

Step 3:

This step will start just after your board exams. After board exam relax for 1-2 days. Try to relax a little. Most important days are coming. Conversion time. Now you have to face the dream exam IIT JEE.

This step is basically a revision and unison step. In this step you have to regain the touch you lost due to board exam. Also, you have to prepare your mind and body for IIT exam schedule.

Solve the collected problem set of any one publisher. Like problems in mathematics by S.K.Goyal. Else, if time is less. Collect as many question paper set of IIT as possible. And, solve one per day in the same time schedule as for JEE. After each test evaluate your score. Then, go for those problem in which you had not done well or had left or get it wrong. Also, those which you solved just by mere luck, especially in objective test. Try to solve these problems with maximum help of book, so that you revise all the concept. Basically by this process you may automatically spend a lot of time on weaker sections or on those section which you can improve by a bit revision. This simple step could improve one's AIR considerably. If followed ideally then 20 to 30% improvement is sure shot.

There is one more step you can follow if you could not collect so much simulator tests. I'll discuss about it later sometime.

Best of luck.

Indian Institute of technology (IIT) are the most prestigious institutes of India. It’s the dream of every science students to study at IIT. One may get admission at any IIT after clearing a test organised by the all the IITs. It's called IIT JEE. As there are many students dreaming to study at IIT or be an IITian. The competition is very tough to clear. Almost 350,000 students each year appear in IIT JEE. Out of which nearly 10000 students are selected. We can find coaching institutes every where which helps students to clear IIT JEE. It is a fact that coaching institutes for IIT JEE are more than double in number of total students selected in IIT JEE. So, the question arises naturally. Are these coaching institutes play any role in the selection for IIT JEE?

Coaching institutes for IIT JEE can be found at almost every corner of street in every town of India. Size and strength of students vary at these places. But, all have same purpose to give students guidance for clearing IIT JEE. No doubt many fail to produce even a single IITian in lifetime. A large number of these institutes teach without proper procedure. There are very kind of institutes. Institutes operating with one teacher and one classroom to institutes with branches in every part of the country. Tuition fees in these institutes also vary from institutes to institutes and city to city. We can say it is a business. Apart from collecting taxes from these institutes, government play no role to monitor the benefits of the students. There are no regulations at all. Any one can teach or cheat students with the dream to be future IITian. Let us see role of coaching institutes in IIT JEE preparation.

We will discuss here role of various types of coaching institutes for various types of students. We will not excluding the dullest students from our category of students. As they are no where around IIT JEE. They should not waste their time for IIT JEE.

1. Big Institutes

In this category, we will discuss about institute which are well known in every part of India. These institutes have branches in various city. They send a lot of students to IIT each year. Some well known names are FIITJEE, Brilliant Tutorials (BT), Bansal Classes, Vidya Mandir, Apex Academy, Narayana, Chaitanya, Career Point, Resonance and Akash. These are some of the well known names. FIITJEE, BT and Bansal Classes stands in front this row. They are renowned institutes which have given the most students to IIT. So, how does they help students to clear IIT JEE. Does they give them some kind of syrup or tonic to drink or eat. No, they don't. Let's discuss how they give such a great results year after year.

BT and Bansal are old very institutes. They started and develop the coaching system for IIT JEE. One more name come in the list, Agrawal Classes. These institute since 80's are teaching for IIT JEE. They develop a study material on the basis of 10th syllabus which could help student to grasp the concept needed in the IIT JEE exam. In the beginning there were not many names in the market. So, it was easy for them to get quality students and guide them. As the quality students are with them. They produced good results each year.

Currently, these institutes recruit best teachers to guide the students along with good study material. They organize tests and doubt clearance session regularly. Also, they give students bunch of questions to solve after every concept is discussed. Institute concentrate on more and more practice and doubt clearance. On an average, in these institutes students solve 3-4 times more questions than in regular studies. So, by constant practice and doubt clearance, students gain pace and accuracy. This helps them to clear IIT JEE. They don't have to think a lot about preparation strategy and other tension. Institutes generally take care of every problem. The institute's think tank keeps a keen eye on the process which help student for selection. As the institute have money power. They spend it to test their methods and improve if needed to change. They have the best team of teachers. They generally get early signs of changes that could be possible in coming IIT JEE exam. On the whole their methods helps students to develop a bit. No doubt.

Lets see how in the present time these big institutes are for different IQ level students. For IIT JEE, lets see students with intelligence level as intelligent, average, below average and dullest. As we have said earlier we will not discuss about dullest students.

A. Intelligent Students:

These students are those who have the highest chance to be an IITian. In any class of 50, one may find 5-10 students from this category. They are born intelligent and many are laborious too. By proper guidance of these institutes. These people develop themselves to solve the toughest and trickiest questions with ease. They secure high ranks with the help of these institutes.

B. Average Students:

Students in this category are mainly those who are either laborious but not intelligent else intelligent but not laborious. Also, those who are a bit of both intelligent and laborious come in this sections. These students needs encouragement and proper guidance to make it to IIT. These institutes give them lots of question to solve. By the practice, environment and luck many students of this group with lower ranks make their way to IIT. Yeah luck is also a factor for them to clear IIT JEE. Even slight mistake in the preparation could cost them an IIT seat.

C. Below Average Students:

This category of students too gets some benefit from these institutes. They are not IIT material. Also, not much good for low level exams. But, these institutes with lots of practice to them, helps them to clear regional exams. That’s high achievement for them.

Remember, I've pointed out that in every aspect these institutes are beneficial for the students. Then, why not every students take admission in these institutes. The reason is simple. They are very much costly too. Yeah, these institutes have a very high fees. Not possible for every one to pay in a country like us. They have full AC class rooms. Their high paying teachers can't teach in non-AC class rooms. Also, many students who study there are AC addicted. So, they have to maintain an AC environment. Even in some circumstance they give scholarship to poor students. That’s few and selected students. That can't help everyone. So, lower middle class students who are the most in numbers go for other sort of low fees or local institutes .

2. Local Institutes

By local institute, I mean those institutes which are popular but just in few towns. Like Paradise Institute, Nutan Institute in Patna; Prerna Classes in Tatanagar; JSR Classes in Varanashi; Bakliwal Tutorials in Pune. Every city or town have many such institute which are popular locally. Some them who have big business and some have just. They generally don't have a regular think tank team to develop strategy. Administration is just in hand of one or two people who are teachers too. Not all but some of them provided printed study material. But, they usually don't organize weekly test. Daily question's hand outs. Yeah some of them do. Teachers in these institutes are almost all good. But, due to lack of strategy. They don't work out as a team.

Lets see how they give benefit to the students.

A. Intelligent Students:

They have the best chance to get in IIT. But, due to lack of strategy and practice. They don't make it to top ranks in IIT JEE. If we look at the selection every year in IIT. In top 200 these institutes have very less share. Instead of the fact that they are much more in numbers. The reason is simple they lack to develop students. Those who gets selected are due to just guidance and intelligence. Some of them who get right teachers and are extra laborious with intelligence make it to top ranks. But, still all this combination can be replaced with a common word Luck. If the student is lucky they make it to top 100 or 200. Else generally, they fill higher ranks of IIT JEE.

B. Average Students:

Usually average students from these institutes fail to clear IIT JEE. They clear other exams. But, IIT looks far from their reach from such institute. Reason can be seen clearly. There is not a strong administration who have plans for everyone. Institute  give no guidance to teacher to take care of everyone. Teachers too like to be more around the sharp brain. They give less extra time for clearing various doubts of these kind of students. With doubts in their mind these students fail to solve the tricky questions of IIT JEE. Many of them secure ranks in regional or other exams.

C. Below Average Students:

Students in this category hardly make any impact in competitive exams from these institutes. Some of the lucky ones gets selected in regional exams.

3. Subject based Tuition

This is the category in which comes subject specific teacher. Institute which teach only one subjects. Actually, these institutes are run by a single teacher. As one single can't teach all the three subjects. Some even teach sub-subject specific . Mainly, we see them in Chemistry. Teachers who teach Organic avoid inorganic. Some time they just teach organic. Sometime they teach all, but focus only on one of the favorite.

This is the most clustered category of all. Most number of misguided students study in this category. There is no one who makes strategy for them. The teachers take care of just their subject. As there is no coordination between other subject's teachers. It's very hard to study inter-related concept. Especially, those portions of Chemistry and Physics which depends on Mathematics. Also, students face timing problem. They have to adjust the time schedule for all three subjects. Not just that, as the classes of each subject have different teacher. They have to run from one place to other for classes. This exhausts the students. Also, it kills valuable time.  Sometimes, tiredness causes losing interest in study.

This method of coaching is no doubt beneficial if we consider money. But, else success only depends on luck. It is most widely faced problem. Not all three subjects teacher are liked by the students. For IIT JEE, all three portion should be balanced. So, even though one finds best teacher for Math. There is no chance of success, if one can't find good teacher for Physics and Chemistry too.

The quality of education system is most damaged by this category. Any one who wants to teach for IIT JEE can open institute and misguide others. It is true that  the best teachers of India teach through this system. But, it is also true that the number of worst teacher is more than good ones. So, students gets exploited in this system most.

Lets see how this group affects students:

1. Intelligent Students:

All depends on luck. If luck helps and students gets tension free, good teachers in every subject, students can clear JEE. But, that’s the rarest case. Only few are lucky to get all three teachers good. If the student is most brilliant one then only nothing can stop him to get selected. Else miserable probability of any hope. Yeah students get selected in various regional or other exams. But, IIT is far from them. Also, one more important point, there is very less hope to get good ranks in IIT JEE. There is no good practice for the students. Some teachers try to give more and more practice, rest is miserable.

2. Average students:

If luck is not with the student very little hope. Even if luck is with students that they get all three good teachers. Almost no hope for IIT JEE. Just a bit hope for regional level exams.

3. Below average students:

Very less chance for these students to get any thing from this system of coaching.

4. Institutes in Kota, Rajasthan

I have discussed about these institutes in detail in my last post. Click Here.

Remarks:

  • It should be you who should decide in which category of student you come.
  • All above is bullshit, if one is laborious and works hard. Laborious and hard working student can change all the law. So, be laborious nothing will matter much.

Are IIT-JEE toppers role models? Or just Models?

ADVERTISEMENTS IN NEWSPAPERS Review, ADVERTISEMENTS IN NEWSPAPERS Subscription, ADVERTISEMENTS IN NEWSPAPERS Price, Are IIT-JEE toppers role models? Or just Models? - MouthShut.com

IIT-JEE!
For many, it spells terror, anxiety and even the ones who
dismiss the competition(because they beat it) rather saying that it was
fun or interesting would agree that it did give them
goose bumps, at
least as the days inched closer.

Today the IIT industry has
become a huge investment ground with new coaching academies springing
up in every nook and corner. There are areas entirely dedicated to the
IIT coaching industry and the whole neighborhood thrives on it. The
roads are covered with pamphlets and brochures of various coaching
institutes.

It’s almost taken for granted that to get into IIT,
you have to have coaching. And in many places (AP being the foremost
here), it starts from an early age. Sometime it is even before the kid
has reached puberty.

Every year, the IIT-JEE topper becomes a
national celebrity. His photo comes on the front page of every news
paper. He gives countless interviews to various media agencies. And
thus the drama starts.

It’s a known fact that many toppers
accept money from institutes that haven’t been affiliated to, just so
that they can advertise for them. Now the question that needs to be
answered is that is this right? This has been talked about on various
blogs. Vivek addresses the problem on his blog.

What
he’s basically asking is that are JEE toppers models for any academy
that can be hired? We might say that it seems ethically wrong. At least
that’s what our gut feeling says at first instinct.
But then he also
says what about a Dhoni who says that a 7 UP made him the brilliant
cricketer that he is now, or Roberto Carlos attributing his football
skills to the sports-drink Gatorade?
Aren’t these people lying too?
So then why should the education industry be singled out? It’s a
business after all. The coaching institutes are factories that need
ranks because only then will they get more and more students and there
never seems to be a plethora of them for newer buildings (branches)
keep springing up.

In JEE
2005 2004 Priya Gupta of Delhi secured AIR 2. She was overwhelmed. Smart she was and had joined FIITJEE,
a prestigious IITJEE training institute with branches all over India.
However a rival institute in the mean time offered jobs to those
teachers at FIITJEE who had trained Ms Gupta. When the results were
declared, the rival institute claimed that they too were responsible
for her success since those teachers now belong to them.

Are IITJEE toppers models?

The
problem here according to me is that, since these IITJEE toppers are
normal guys and girls next door, their word is taken more seriously
than say a Milind Soman advertising for Nivea cold cream or the sorts.
Also
in the case of celebrities like actors and sportsperson, the public has
seen them grow from rookies to superstars where as in the case of an
IIT topper only the final outcome is presented.
Another problem is
after tenth grade the student is rather gullible and well in most cases
so are his/her parents and doesn’t know which institution to join,
seeing AIR hailing from a particular institution will make him/her want
to join it.
Another major reason why it feels wrong is because in
the case of a sports-person, celebrity you know that its like a
lottery, as in only 15 people make it to the squad, or only 3-4 movies
are successful each year, the point I am trying to make is that,
whether Sachin drinks Boost to improve his performance or smells
Agarwal incense sticks, it doesn’t matter to the common because he
doesn’t want to be a cricket. But as opposed to becoming a cricketer or
an actor, IIT is very much reachable, with 12000 people being called
this year (including all the lists, Ok I’ve included reservation seats,
that’s not the context here).

Tips to ace the IIT-JEE 2010

IIT JEE Preparation & Solution: Tips to ace the IIT-JEE 2010

Approximately four lakh students are expected to appear for the IIT-JEE 2010, scheduled for April 11, 2010. My advice to students is to avoid selective study in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. This is because with the number of questions being more in objective type papers and with intermingling of their underlying concepts, all topics are likely
to be covered.

The syllabus is almost completely based on Class XI and XII (View the exhaustive syllabus with all chapters and their topics by logging on to www.iitjee.org). The JEE syllabus of Class XI and XII contributes about 45 per cent and 55 per cent of IIT-JEE question papers respectively. When you are preparing all the chapters of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, stress may be given, in particular, on the following topics.

Mathematics: Quadratic equations and expressions, complex numbers, probability, vectors, matrices in algebra; circle, parabola, hyperbola in coordinate geometry; functions, limits, continuity and differentiability, application of derivatives, definite integral in calculus.

Physics: Mechanics, fluids, heat and thermodynamics, waves and sound, capacitors and electrostatics, magnetics,
electromagnetic induction, optics and modern physics.

Chemistry: Qualitative analysis, coordination chemistry and chemical bonding in inorganic chemistry, electrochemistry, chemical equilibrium in physical chemistry and organic chemistry complete as a topic.

Planning is the key
The way to prepare and deal with the study pressure is proper planning and its implementation.

* Divide the time available on the three subjects.
* Further detail out the chapter-wise, topic-wise time schedule.
* Make summary notes/ points to remember of all the concepts topic/ chapter-wise and flag the questions with twist, intermingling of concepts requiring analytical skills.

This will help in quick revision, a couple of days before or even on the eve of the examination.

The right approach
Students, who are simultaneously preparing for Class XII board exams and IIT-JEE, should start concentrating on Class XII and the corresponding IIT-JEE chapters around 21 days before board examination. However, the flame should be kept burning even for Class XI chapters by way of revision till the start of the board examinations. After the board examinations, focused and concentrated revision of both Class XI and XII subjects will have to be undertaken.

The right approach for those appearing for the first time or second (last) time is to stick to one source and not to refer to multitude of books/ study material available in the market. For example it is sufficient to go through study-packages,
IIT-JEE archives, review-packages, work-books, Grand Masters Package/ Equivalent, AITS/AIITS series etc,
supplied by FIITJEE if the student is enrolled in any of its programmes. To reap benefits, the students, throughout preparation period, should remain focused with a positive attitude to study with utmost concentration.

It is quality of time spent and not the quantity alone. A short break of 5 to 10 minutes every one to one-and-a-half hours of serious study is advisable. Total relaxation during the break should charge the batteries for another intensive spell of serious study.

Pattern of papers
There will be two three-hour [P (Physics), C (Chemistry) and M (Mathematics) combined] papers to test the aptitude,
comprehension and analytical ability of students. The expected pattern in 2010 is a suitable mix of various types from
2006 to 2009.

IIT JEE

Importance of practice sessions
To keep focused for better results, students should strictly follow a well-planned time schedule. During practice sessions speed in working out the questions should be developed. This is a natural byproduct if the student has attempted questions from basic principles in the initial stages. However, it is never too late to practice it. This strategy of solving questions from fundamentals will induce in the student a parallel thinking process so very necessary to increase and master analytical skills with conceptual understanding.

The proof of the pudding, however, is in the eating. Progress made must be checked by solving quizzes/ mock test papers on a regular basis. The student should aim at 100 per cent hit rate ie all attempted questions are correct. This will ensure a competitive edge over others who will be left behind due to negative marking. Speed and accuracy will also allow finishing the paper ahead of time, leaving some time for revision.

Keep mind and body fit
Asanas, pranayama and meditation (in that order) every day in the morning and/or evening will help to develop inner calm and power of concentration needed for success. This will ultimately be of immense help on the test day. A minimum of at least 5 to 6 hours of sleep daily is necessary to keep the mind and body fit.

Facing the exam
The strategy in the examination hall will be to keep cool, to have faith and to harness the examination temperament built during planned preparation. It is advisable to reach the examination centre at least 20 minutes early. A few deep breaths will ward off nervousness. Instructions given in the question papers should be read and followed very carefully. The student should not spend more than 45 minutes on any of the subjects in the first attempt. He should fix priorities after a concentrated quick reading of the paper and start with answering the question he knows best and move progressively to ones in ascending order of difficulty.

Questions with no negative marks must be attempted. The 45-minute cycle should be repeated for the other two subjects. Thereafter the student should come back to the three sections for attempting left out questions, conceptually with well-reasoned logic and for overall revision during the last 45 minutes. Even if some segment/ section appears to be tough, one should keep cool since it is the relative performance which will count.

Remain positive
The IIT-JEE exam tests one's understanding in application of concepts and analytical skills vis-a-vis mechanical/ blind application of formulae/ theory. Temporary set-backs or poor performance during practice in some quiz or mock test paper should not discourage and one should march onwards with greater will and determination.

The success in the IIT-JEE examination is directly proportionate to the number of problems solved independently and preferably by more than one method. To raise the bar and to develop muscles, the weight is to be lifted by the student himself.

I dream of study at an IIT.... But my parents have mo means to give me good school education and support my coaching for IIT-JEE

FORTUNE 40 - A social initiative by FIIT JEE to ensure success for the economically deprived. It provide students with a platform where they are able to access the collective knowledge of experts that can help them in achieving their goal. It has been our endeavour at FIITJEE to make this pool of knowledge accessible to as many students as possible, purely based on their capabilities & potential and not on their financial ability. In consonance with this belief FIITJEE has supported financially weak students with scholarships & grants.

The program will financially support capable students presently studying in class VIII (going to IX) & class X (going to XI) whose parental income is below Rs.10,000/- per month. FIITJEE will support these meritorious students in their preparation for achieving their dream goal by awarding 100% scholarships for FIITJEE programs & 100% hostel charges waiver. For Integrated School Program not all schools will be giving a 100 % scholarship on school fee, but the school fee would be very nominal to support these students. The FORTUNATE 40 batch for each program, at each location, will have a maximum of 40 students only.

Students will have to appear for a selection test on 10th February, 2008. There is no registration fee for the selection test. To be eligible for the FORTUNATE 40 batch students have to clear the individual subject cutt-offs & the total cut-off. Selected students will be notified and admitted to the program of their choice with 100% scholarships.

The final discretion of award of scholarship in each case will remain with FIITJEE and this decision will be final and binding on the candidate.

FIIT-JEE set to scale up operations

FIIT-JEE set to scale up operations

Rayana Pandey / New Delhi March 19, 2008
FIIT-JEE — a test-preparing institute for entrance to the country’s most coveted engineering colleges, the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) — is all set to diversify with full-fledged schools and colleges while simultaneously launching its programmes abroad as well.

“Our intention is to move from merely being a test-preparing institute and towards holistic education,” says D K Goel, founder chairman, FIIT-JEE. Apart from scaling up its two-year integrated classroom programme ‘Pinnacle’, it is also eyeing at foraying into full-fledged schools from next year.

“To begin with, we are coming up with three schools with multiple affiliations like Central Board for Secondary Education, International Baccalaureate and others,” Goel adds.

Fiitjee also proposes to set up universities soon. As of now, this programme is being imparted through three Fiitjee junior colleges, established in 2004, and at 21 other schools in collaboration, across the country.

Some time back, Fiitjee also entered into the arena of preparation for medical entrance exams with its ASCENT Plus programme which also prepares students for class IX and X boards, SAT, various Olympiads, and other competitive exams.

Marking its foray into international markets, Fiitjee launched the same programme at Bahrain, last year. “We plan to expand this programme to the entire Gulf countries. We also had proposals from Singapore for Pinnacle and other programmes but we will look at it next year,” Goel added.

Fiitjee was started in 1992 by Goel, a mechanical engineering graduate from IIT-Delhi to provide guidance to IIT aspirants.

“Even as we diversify, our priority is to see to it that we get much more share in terms of IIT-JEE successful candidates. Almost 57 per cent of total students at all the seven IITs together are either Fiitjee trained or ones who had been associated with us through various tests and modules. Around 22 per cent of them are exclusively Fiitjee trained. Our target is to take this share to at least 40 per cent in the coming years,” Goel adds.

CHENNAI: For S Nivvedan (17), who stood 113th the IIT entrance examination rank list, which made him the topper in the Tamil Nadu and Kerala regions, clearing the test was like a cakewalk. For, he didn't miss a single IPL match this season.

He took the integrated course offered by FIITJEE at Maharishi Vidya Mandir.

"Since it was integrated with my school course we found it easier to study. It is not how much extra you study but how deep you study your subject that matters," he said.

While Nivvedan wants to become a politician, his mother wants him to get an MBA and his father wants him to join the family business. "I don't want to study in IITC though it one of the best places. I want to go to Mumbai or Delhi so that I can explore a new city," he says.

His friend Siddhartha S, who stood third in the State and 203 at the allIndia level got into the IIT mania by sheer influence. "Nivvedan and I have been studying for seven years together and hence IIT was a natural choice of study option after he urged me to pursue it. I want to become a manager in the corporate sector after I doing my MBA," he said.

According to various IITJEE coaching centres in the city, Chennai students scored more ranks than last year.

To celebrate the success, FIITJEE called its 150 students at Maharishi Vidya Mandir to cut a fivefoot long cake.

PEs pump in $140 million in education since Jan 2010

PEs pump in $140 million in education since Jan 2010-Indicators-Economy-News-The Economic Times

19 May 2010, 0710 hrs IST,Dibyajyoti Chatterjee,ET Bureau
MUMBAI: Education has emerged one of the most lucrative sectors in India, making private equity investors line up in big numbers to the $80-billion plus industry.

Numbers crunched by education-focused private equity fund Kaizen Management Advisors show that venture capitalists and private equity players have pumped in excess of $140 million so far this year, 50% more than what they invested in the whole of 2009.

“We feel the education sector offers tremendous growth potential and is poised for rapid growth in the next few years,” says Ramesh Venkat, chief executive of Reliance Equity Advisors, a private equity arm of Reliance Capital, which entered the segment a few months ago by investing about Rs 100 crore in Pathways World School, a primary and higher secondary school.

The total VC/PE investment into the sector is expected to be close to $300 million this year, says Sandeep Aneja, managing director of Kaizen Management Advisors. Dhanraj Bhagat, partner at research firm Grant Thornton, says investments into education will grow 40-50 % every year.

There are about 25 PE/VC players in the market actively looking for good deals, and about ten deals have been done in the last few months.

Last week US-based VC firm Foundation Capital made two back-to-back investments—Rs 31 crore in Tree House Education , a company that operates in the preschool and K-12 category, and Rs 20 crore in Aspire Human Capital Management, a Gurgaon-based employability enhancing firm.

“We are interested in investing in large markets which have scale,” says Ashu Garg, partner , Foundation Capital. “It is estimated that about 70 million young Indians suffer from employability skill mismatch,” he adds.

Lack of regulation in K-12 (kindergarten to class XII) segment and supplementary education has made education attractive for investors. "Sectors such as vocational training, supplementary education, preschools , ICT and content are appealing as these are relatively immune from regulatory uncertainty," says Raja Parthasarathy, managing director, IDFC Private Equity.

Matrix Partners India too has invested Rs 59 crore in Tree House in two tranches—Rs 50 crore in 2008 and Rs 9 crore this month. Rajesh Bhatia, chairman and managing director of Tree House Education, declined to reveal the stake of PE firms, but said the promoters have more than 51% stake in the company.

Tree House runs 135 pre-schools across the country and has expanded in the K-12 segment in the last 18 months. It runs the schools under management contract. The pre-school segment is worth $2 billion but is growing at an annual rate of 40-45 %, according to Rishi Navani, co-founder and managing director of Matrix Partners.

Matrix Partners last year invested Rs 100 crore in FIITJEE, a coaching institute focused on training for IIT entrance exam. The engineering coaching business market is worth Rs 10,000 crore, said Mr Navani.

The education sector began heating up in 2005. Although the deal sizes in the sector are much smaller compared to sectors such as infrastructure, the PE appetite for the industry increased rapidly. Perhaps the biggest deal till recently was IDFC PE's Rs 135-crore investment in Manipal Education in September 2006.

It was surpassed this February when Manipal Education raised a second round of funding of more than Rs 190 crore ($43 million) from Premji Invest.

The most active segments in the industry are education technologies and test preparation segments, which have attracted some big money since 2008.
